Julia Child!

I just started reading "My Life in France" by Julia Child and Alex Prud'Homme.  This is such a wonderful memoir!  Her beautifully detailed descriptions of the food, Paris, France in general, the people she met and her total love of everything French are mesmerizing.  I can hardly put it down!

A New Year!

Okay, I've been remiss in posting on this blog.  It happens.  Recently finished Mr. King's latest 11/22/63.  Amazing.  That's all.  The crazy amount of detail put into that book makes you feel like you're there.  I couldn't read the book fast enough because I was dying to find out what happend.   Then, as soon as I was finished I wanted to start all over and read it again, slower, to savor the details.  I haven't done that yet, but I'm sure I will.  I rarely read a Stephen King book only once.  Also, since the Gunslinger series is being made into a movie, it is my resolution this year to finally read them.  I had attempted to a long time ago but ended up not even finishing the first book.  Now that I'm about half-way through that first book, I'm not sure what I didn't like about it the first time.  I've been enjoying it quite a bit.

Also, you should all read "Ghost Story" by Peter Straub.  Scary.

Happy 2012 to everyone!

I Love Love Love Dan Simmons

Seriously.  Love.  Just finished Carrion Comfort.  Now my favorite Dan Simmons after The Terror.  Fast paced, supernatural thriller.  Wonderfully long.  I just love a super-long book.  This one is a page turner and totally worth every minute.

Mile 81

It's worth buying a Kindle just to get these perfect little nuggests of S.K. perfection.  Seriously.  His best stories often center around bored kids in the summer time.  This one is no exception.  Not too short, not too long.  A quick S.K. fix while waiting for 11/22/63.  Can't wait.

A word about Joe Hill

Okay, more than one word.  In short, he rocks.  I admit that I first decided to listen to Heart Shaped Box on audiobook (I was traveling 50 miles one way to work) because he's Stephen King's kid.  Of course, I quickly realized that on his own, he's a brilliant writer.  No famous dad necessary.  I have since read his book of short stories, 20th Century Ghosts, as well as Horns.  Love him.  Cannot wait for his next offering.

Dan Simmons

So I just started reading Carrion Comfort by Dan Simmons.  I love me some Dan Simmons!  The first book of his that I ever read was The Terror.  It was the perfect book for me, historical fiction meets horror.  A wonderful mix of James Michener and Stephen King - two of my favorite authors.  I have also read Summer of Night, Black Hills and Drood by Mr. Simmons.  Two very different books but each wonderful in it's own way.  I will admit that it took me a while to get through Drood.  Some parts were a little slow.  I'm was glad that I kept going though, a very enjoyable book overall.  Summer of Night is more horror along the lines of S.K.  Summer, kids, scary building, evil grown-ups.  A great page-turner that I read very quickly.

Just what I like

I'm always on the lookout for new books to read.  I especially like to look at lists of books suggested by authors that I like to read.  I figure that if I like them, I will also like what they like to read.  My favorite book suggestor is Stephen King.  Anyway, the entire and only purpose of this blog is to talk about books that I like and suggest books to you.  You can disagree, that's fine.  But remember, it's my blog and it's about books that I love!  Happy Reading!
